E-grip equipped A-5 powered by HP Air. I cronoed 285 at the beginning of the day.
During the last day’s play I had major paint issues (about 3 out of 4 balls) blowing up in my gun (barrel breaks, not cyclone too bad). I do not know if they were blowing up in the bbl, or in the action as the gun propelled the ball into the bbl. The bbl was a mess inside. I still had about 2,000 psi at the end of the game. I had trouble shooting from the trench to the tower at Base 4. This basically took me out of the second base domination game. Could this loss of trajectory be caused by lots of paint in the bbl?
I used some of Tigar’s Midnight and seemed to have no problems.
Went back to the other paint at home (let my son shoot a hopper full for his 8th birthday). Lots of paint spray and crappy velocity (velocity judged by the noise created hitting plywood) I had the bbl literally fill up with paintballs - I had to force the bbl clear with a dowel rod.
Does this just sound like a paint problem, or velocity (possibly regulator) problems plus bad paint? I want to fix it prior to the next game if it is anything other than paint.

When you come to the field I'll smack you!!!
Type of paint, age of paint and temp outside would be nice to know S/A.
When was the last time you ran a drop or 2 of oil in your reg?
Really sounds like paint problem.

I put a drop or 2 of oil in the threaded port where the tank screws on(cant' remember the name of it right now) every time I remove the tank or clean the gun (litearlly before this day's paly). This unfortunately is downstream of the regulator on the tank and probably does nothing for the reg.
I bought my HPA tank and regulator from one of the fine staff at NKPB and thought they might be able to chime in if they had any experience like this (the entire rig has worked great for the last year or so since purchase - thanks). A little turnover would have been nice though (I suppose I get slapped twice now).
The paint was about 2 months old (I forget the name it was some camo paintballs I bought at -----------s to paly an outlaw game and it worked fine there (it was warmer)). I always keep my paint in bags indoors.
I mentioned it was at the last game, so I figured weather conditions were known. I should have stated weather conditions this for those who were not there. I believe you were there Rolling Thunder as mentioned in your entry on that day's game play thread. Or possibly it was your alter personality at the field house that day (the nice guy personality filling tanks and helping with guns) as opposed to the one that is boisterously threatening to slap around honest, hard working, god fearing, paying customers. I suppose now I get slapped three times.
I figured it was a paint issue, but the velocity going to crap is disconcerting (it could be due to al the paint in the bbl). I’ll take a closer look at the reg and see what I can figure out.

Yes....I'm only nice when I'm not playing or selling something!!! Would you like to buy a candy bar!!!
Just one good slap will do!
BTW, I sold you the HPA bottle. HPA bottle regs never get oiled, thought you meant you had a secondary reg, such as a Palmer. You should always put a drop or 2 in the ASA every 2-3 cases to keep the secondary reg working properly.
End of the day the temperature dropped, so I'm guessing your paint was affected.
As far as conditions, don't know how you store your paint....was goning to say balls, but that leads to unneeded comments from the gallery.
Jason brought some PCS Camo paint (made by RPS) game day for testing, found it was very brittle due to temperature. My guess yours is very similar because most of the shells don't handle temps below 50* well.
Next time drop test your paint. For those who don't know how to drop test, we do it 2 ways.
First way; Drop a paintball from shoulder height on to a hard surface, if it bounces then you are good to use paint. If it breaks then paint is bad or conditions are not good for use.
Second way (the one we use at field);
Gentle toss paintball about 4-6 feet from you on to a hard surface, if it bounces then you are good to use paint. If it breaks then paint is bad or conditions are not good for use.
As far as velocity issues, could be one of a dozen things, hard to say.
